Canine Vaccines

Core Vaccines recommended for dogs include:

  • Rabies - this vaccine is required by law to prevent a fatal neurological disease contagious to humans.
  • 5-Way Combination
    • Distemper - a usually fatal virus that can cause respitory disease contagious to humans.
    • Parvovirus - a serious viral disease that causes vomiting, diarrhea, and attacks the immune system.
    • Hepatitis (Adenovirus) - a viral disease causing inflammation of the liver and liver failure.
    • Parainfluenza - a highly contagious respitory disease and sometimes pneumonia.
  • Bordetella - one of the bacterial causes of Kennel Cough causing coughing and sometimes pneumonia.
  • We also recommend routine de-worming.

Elective vaccines for dogs include ( recommended for dogs who travel to areas with disease):

  • Lyme disease - a tick bourne disease causing lethargy, lameness, joint pain, fever and loss of appetite.
  • Leptospirosis - a rickettsial disease causing organ failure

Other recommendations:
If you travel to mosquito, flea, or tick area with your pet, you may need other medications prior to departure.

We recommend a yearly stool exam to ensure that your dog is free of internal parasites.

 

Puppy Vaccine Series

Puppies, like kids, get several rounds of vaccines when young and these are critical.

6 weeks           Parvovirus, Dewormer                                     

8 weeks           Distemper, Parvovirus, Hepatitis, Parainfluenze, Bordetella, Dewormer

12 weeks         Distemper, Parvovirus, Hepatitis, Parainfluenze,  Bordetella, Dewormer

16 weeks         Distemper, Parvovirus, Hepatitis, Parainfluenze,  Bordetella, Dewormer, Rabies

**Lepto is optional at 12 and 16 weeks.
